not only did my favorite attorney general get himself elected to the governors spot in NYS, but also, Whiz Bang! check out the number of house seats that the democrats won! I am so excited!
I feel like America has been ruled by the politics of fear for so long, and that this election is America standing out, sticking out her chin, bucking up, and MOVING THE HECK ON. saying “enough of this! you’ve scared and bullied me long enough. onwards and upwards!” America, I am so excited for you. YAY.
[[and tangentially, now Nancy Pelosi will be closer than any woman has been to the presidency! Not that I’d wish any harm on GWB JOHN ASHCROFT I’M LOOKING AT YOU, DON’T GET ANY IDEAS but it is pretty darn exciting.]]
EDIT! Rumsfeld Resigns! what an exciting mid-term election! see, everyone? voting is AWESOME! you get to feel totally invested in the process and it’s results!
EDIT AGAIN! I feel like running around the office yelling “the emperor has no clothes! the emperor has no clothes! this is SO exciting.
I hate to be a forecaster of doom and gloom (especially since I think it’s wonderful that the Republicans have lost control of Congress), but I think it’s worth pointing out that if Bush’s pick for the Pentagon goes through (and all indications are that he will), that means there will be a CIA-vet in charge of the military whilst (and at the same time as) a military-vet is in charge of the CIA. Especially considering our intelligence agency’s tendency to whisk military prisoners away in the dead of night on planes that don’t exist to unfriendly locales for questioning and our military’s fondness for questionable tactics in the process of interrogating their own prisoners. So, I’m glad that Rummy resigned, but I am not certain that his replacement signals real change on the part of the administration.
Oh, I’m not looking for real change. except for change to that GIANT EGO and do-no-wrong attitude. THAT is important. The CIA thing is totally worrying, and also, this guy was in the hot seat before for the iran-contra situation, so it isn’t ideal at all. it’s more of a general glee that gw’s hand was forced by an amazing popular election that seems to signal america is tired of being spoon-fed terror-cakes and is read to start performing some oversight on our “elected” officials!
