Michelle and Gabbi and I went to see chihuly in the bronx botanical gardens. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been trying to see chihuly for a while. The biggest challenge (besides the bus being ultra slow, us missing our planned train, and worrying that the timed entry tickets wouldn’t be valid) was saying ChiHULY and not ChiLULY. I know, it’s the little things that are the most difficult.
it was a seriously beautiful day.
there were a lot of different things to look at…
flowery things:
his more familiar sculptural chandeliery things:
floaty things:
boats of things:
wavy things:
bowly things:
spectator sporty things:
little chairs:
sharp cactuses:
and talking fish.
it was very very beautiful.
blown glass is such a funny medium, you know? it can be totally kitchy, or very artsy. it’s a fine fine line. chihuly’s glass is so organic but so alien at the same time. I’m so glad we went!
all my photos are here. I love botanical gardens, and I love glass.
I am happily jealous. I was to come to NY for just this exhibit. I introduced my beloved cousin to Chihuly and we were to celebrate at this show. Blah things like stomach flu and other disasters got in the way, but it is *so* good to see your photos of it. I will pretend I was there too.
I took a bazillion photos sort of for that express purpose… what you see is what caught my eye on the way through the gardens!
